Double Award Winners!! “Best Rural Social Enterprise (Wales & N.I.)” and “Serving Rural Communities Award” 2019-20

Llanwrtyd Wells Community Transport (LWCT) is very pleased to announce that they have won two prestigious awards. They have been announced as the winners for the Best Rural Social Enterprise, Charity or Community Project at the Rural Business Awards, for the Wales and Northern Ireland Region, 2019-20, and they have won the Serving Rural Communities Award, at the Community Transport Awards. Also, their friends from the Landed Festival, whom LWCT supports, have won an award.

The Amazon-sponsored Rural Business Awards regional final for Wales and Northern Island, took place on November 8th 2019, and LWCT were named one of the best rural businesses in the country. Their award was for Best Rural Social Enterprise, Charity or Community Project 2019/20 in the Wales and Northern Ireland Region. The award ceremony was held at the Wrexham Glyndŵr University and was regionally sponsored by Openreach.

Following this impressive achievement at the regional final, LWCT will now go on to represent Wales and Northern Ireland at the national final in February 2020.

Community Transport Awards took place on November 12th 2019, at the Football Hotel, Manchester and LWCT won the Serving Rural Communities Award sponsored by Courtside Conversions.

Also in November, the Landed Festival was successful in the 4th Welsh Hospitality Awards in winning the Best Welsh Festival Award, and LWCT offer their hearty congratulations to everyone involved with the festival. The Landed Festival takes place on the Doldowlod Estate between Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader in the month of August, and was well-supported this year with about 600 people enjoying the entertainment. It is in its eight year, and is an independent family and young people festival of Music, Art and Entertainment, made possible by support from LWCT.

LWCT first became operational in 2002 and was the brainchild of Dave Brown, who could see the need for a community transport scheme because of the difficulty in accessing, and the sparsity of public transport in this very rural area. The organisation has gone on to provide not only transport but coffee clubs, a community garden, games afternoon, working with the Probation Service to support young offenders, in conjunction with PAVO is now setting up and managing a Volunteer Bureau. To help subsidise transport costs, the organisation has set up an Events Recycling arm and Sportscare Services, providing fully qualified first aiders for sports events and much more.

LWCT would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all its staff, volunteers and users of our services. We couldn’t have done it without you, thank you so very much.
